An Uzbekistan resident from the Tashkent region has been arrested and sentenced to 15 days of detention for wearing a niqab and women's clothing, according to the press service of the Tashkent City Court. The individual was detained by the police while wearing female attire and a niqab at a market in Tashkent.
"A punishment of 15 days of administrative detention has been assigned," the press release stated.
Earlier, a deputy speaker of the State Duma introduced a draft law that proposes granting legislative and municipal assemblies the power to decide on the prohibition of religious and other clothing that fully or partially covers the face in public places.
